Good morning. America's 'liberation day' is here. Donald Trump started his address at 7am AEST today.
A few key points so far:
Trump will sign a 'historical executive order' instituting reciprocal tariffs on countries throughout the world, "They do it to us and we do it to them".
A baseline of 10% tariffs on imports to the US will be implemented.
Trump called out Australia specifically, "they're wonderful people, and wonderful everything, but they ban American beef. They don't want it because they don't want it to affect their farmers and you know, I don't blame them but we're doing the same thing right now starting at midnight tonight".
A 25% tariff to be imposed on all foreign cars.
