Good morning. Thousands gathered at Bondi yesterday to mourn the tragic events that happened on Sunday night. Here is what we know about the incident so far:

  • 16 people have died, including one of the alleged gunmen, and a further 42 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across Sydney.

  • The alleged gunmen were a 50-year-old, who was shot by police and died at the scene, and his 24-year-old son, who suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital under police guard where he remained on Monday.

  • Police have not named the alleged gunmen, but media have identified them as Naveed Akram and his father, Sajid Akram.

  • The NSW police commissioner, Mal Lanyon, said the father was a licensed firearms holder with six guns.

  • Bomb disposal experts removed two active improvised explosive devices from the scene.

Finally, a 43-year-old man, Ahmed al-Ahmed, was identified as the man seen on footage tackling and disarming one of the shooters from behind. He was shot twice and is still in hospital.
