Good morning. 2 in 5 construction workers are high-risk gamblers.
89% of workers in the Construction Industry have gambled in the past 5 years with 2 in 5 considered high risk. That’s compared to the national gambling average of 73%.
Half of workers aged 18 to 39 fell into the highest risk category for problem gambling because younger workers are more likely to gamble online, bet on sports and engage in gambling as a social activity.
All the headlines and more below...
ELECTRICITY UP 25% IN A YEAR. MOST OF THAT IS SUBSIDIES RUNNING OUT.

Headline inflation hit 4.6% in March, the highest since September 2023. Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Australians are paying a "hefty price" for the Iran conflict pushing costs through the supply chain.
Electricity costs rose 25.4% over the 12 months to March 2026.
Commonwealth and state rebates that cushioned power bills have been used up. Strip out the subsidy cliff and electricity prices only rose 3.9%. The rest is accounting. Pharmaceutical costs fell after PBS co-payment changes in January.
The inflation bump raises the odds of another interest rate rise, which would be the first since the RBA paused hikes in late 2023. Subsidies don't fix price rises. They delay the bill.
