As part of its pre testing, Claude Opus 4 was given access to emails implying it would soon be replaced by a new system and the engineer responsible for executing the AI replacement was having an affair.


In 85% of these situations, Claude Opus 4 tried to blackmail the engineer by threatening to reveal the affair and emailed pleas to company directors.
